This article is out of date, and will be updated soon.

I have had a number of different jobs in the past,

I went from Paperboy to Kitchen Assistant when I was at School, both these jobs taught me one thing, which was what I didn’t want to do! Not that they were terrible jobs both had their perks like meeting some really great people in the process but neither job was really for me.
For my work experience week in Year 10 I spent a week at Pall Engineering in Redruth. I experienced many areas of the factory that interested me, from designing parts on AutoCAD to working in Computer Support.

In College I got the chance to work part time in the Network Support Team (NST) I got to use some of the skills such as computer building and troubleshooting practically. Most of the work revolved around fixing bugs which had been reported with the hardware and software however all too often the where stupid things to fix that were obvious cases of vandalism to the equipment. I enjoyed working in Network Support, however this disregard for the equipment was frustrating at times.

Most recently I spent the summer between stage 1 and 2 at university working for Cornwall County Council in the Information Services Group (ISG). In “Services Support” I worked on the call centre which in the time I was there was renamed to “Service Desk” as the first line support was no longer taking calls and helping with the simplest of problems but was now being trained to be closing the target of 50% off all calls into the service desk. This job both helped my communication and team working skills. My colleagues were very supportive when I joined it was a daunting job at first handling calls for supporting 4000+ computers, by the time I was leaving I was training the new temps they were employing. Working on the Service desk had its ups and downs most days would go well with appreciative callers, great team to work in First line, remote and field support. However one caller could ruin your entire day.

I now look forward to my placement at Lockheed Martin IS&S this is what my previous experience has been working towards, I’ve maintained focus in I.T. and worked my way to realise the job I want and get there, I aim now to try to impress, learn from the experience of others I will work with, and develop my confidence for what it is I’m now going to do and want to continue doing after graduation.
